2 mazesAnswer keys includedA4 + US Letter

Choose a level

Ears, neck and a bushy tail

The sitting fox has tall pointed ears, a wide head that narrows into a slim neck, and a big round tail stretching off to the right, with its tip curling in at the left end of the flat base. Inside this fox maze, square-stepped walls follow that outline, and the two arrows sit well apart outside it, each at the end of a short channel through a gap. Page 2 of every PDF is an answer key with the route in orange.

Two levels of paths

The medium fox holds 248 cells of 8 mm and asks for a route through 95 of them, for ages 6 to 8. It runs from the left cheek through the head, down the neck and out through the base, a little left of center.

The hard fox packs in 556 cells of 5.5 mm for ages 9 to 12, and its 279-cell route starts outside the right ear, near its tip, crosses the head, winds down the neck deep into the body and the tail and comes back to finish on the left side, just below the neck. With fit to page switched off and the A4 or US Letter file at 100 percent, those narrow paths keep their width. Start changes position between the two levels, so solving one does not give away the other.

A waiting room or a car ride

It needs only a pencil, which makes it a good pick for a waiting room, a car ride or the first quiet minutes of a school day. Many children color the fox orange around the finished path and keep the page as a picture.

Skills practiced & tips

  1. Look for both arrows before starting, since Start sits in a different place on the two levels.
  2. Run a finger along the path first, then follow with a pencil.
  3. Switch to a different color pencil for each new attempt.
  4. On the hard fox, take the route one part at a time, since it runs from the ear down into the body and the tail and back up to the neck.
  5. When the maze is solved, color the fox orange around the path and leave the tail tip white.

Frequently asked questions

How tight are the corridors on the hard fox?

They are 5.5 mm wide, against 8 mm on the medium fox. The hard maze packs in 556 cells instead of 248, and its route runs through 279 cells where the medium route runs through 95.

What comes after the medium fox?

The hard fox, for ages 9 to 12. The fox comes in only two levels, and the medium one is for ages 6 to 8.

Does the fox maze start in the same place on both levels?

No. The medium fox starts outside the left cheek and finishes below the base, a little left of center. The hard fox starts outside the right ear, near its tip, and finishes outside the left side of the body, just below the neck.

Does the route go into the tail?

On the hard fox it does: the route winds down the neck deep into the body and the tail before it comes back to finish just below the neck. The medium route runs from the left cheek through the head and down the neck to the base.

Do both fox routes go through the neck?

Yes. The medium route runs down the neck to the base, and the hard route winds down it deep into the body and the tail before coming back to finish just below it.
