Kawaii is the Japanese word for cute. On a printable it means round shapes, friendly faces and small smiles, and the animals and treats gathered here all share that look. The pets are a cat, a puppy and a bunny. A fox, a bear, an owl and a frog come from woods and ponds, a turtle, a whale and a shark from the sea, and a butterfly, a reindeer, a turkey and a stegosaurus round out the group.

Most of the animals have coloring pages with an easy version in bolder lines, tracing sheets, a drawing guide, dot to dots and mazes cut in the animal’s outline, and several add a color by number. On the treat side there is a gingerbread man, a jack-o’-lantern pumpkin and a candy maze.

At home, connect the dots, color the finished picture, then draw it freehand. Teachers like the drawing guides as a calm whole-class task. Every card shows its age band, and the bands run from 3 to 12. Ink running low is no problem on the easy versions: their extra-thick outlines stay crisp even in draft mode, as long as the A4 or US Letter file prints at 100 percent.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a coloring page kawaii?

Kawaii pages use round bodies, friendly faces, small smiles and soft, simple shapes. On this site that look runs through the animals, from a sitting cat and a puppy to an owl, a whale and a walking stegosaurus, and through treats like the gingerbread man.

Are kawaii pages only for young children?

No. Small children like the big simple shapes, while older children and adults often color them as a calm break, adding patterns and shading of their own.

Are there kawaii crafts or letter pages?

Yes. The cat also has a mask and a bookmark to cut out, and a few alphabet pages pair a letter with an apple, a bird, a cat or a fish.
